By 2020, 70% of small to medium-sized businesses will be owned by women over 55. What are the factors involved in the push and pull dynamic and how can women use them to determine if owning or starting a business is right for them?

Thanks for your comments!

* Your point is interesting Shawn. I had another reader leave me a note on Facebook that was similar(male), but his comment suggested quite a bit of change due to the collaborative style of most female leaders. You are right, it will be something to watch. Mind you by then, heck, how OLD will I be. Will I care? :-)

* Divacruiser: You know what sis - I hear you on that one, and I have been in business all my life. The other day I was teaching a class of would be entrepreneurs. One young guy was starting a motorbike repair shop. GET THIS...not a shop where he fixes your bike. This is a shop where he provides the community tools and expertise and YOU come there and fix your bike with others. Such a new model. So in tune with the GEN XYZ - how do we keep up??? Thanks. (I think I just gave myself tomorrow's article for my Examiner column. :-)

As a 50 something female, I was delighted to see these stats! Sometimes I get anxious--I spent 20 years teaching school and community college and then started this business. Doubts creep in at times--am I too old? have the guys and gals in Gen X and Gen Y got too much of an advantage or head start on me? This is wonderful news!

It will be interesting to see how this dynamic impacts the overall complexion of the economy. Will there really be any change or, at the end of the day, are business owners business owners regardless of gender?
