Pricing is a tough topic for entrepreneurs, not only must they test for customers' acceptance of pricing, but their pricing must not violate antitrust laws.

I started in real estate sales in the 70′s. There had been an anti trust settlement in our area. A broker had stood up at a meeting and said “I don’t know about you guys, but I can’t make it at this commission rate”. That was all that was said.

One week later he increased his fee as did several other brokers. The result was handed down to that state board of Realtors. All brokers and the board were found at fault.

For the first few years in sales I had to pay a certain portion from each commission in “script” to satisfy the judgement.

Ti: In order to be on the safe side you have to know these laws, but you should fight to get rid of these anti-business regulations. Instead of intruding in the way businesses are doing businesses, the law makers should protect rights of the individuals. Trust businesses by creating a free market place. When will the politicians understand the word, Laissez-faire capitalism?
