I often wonder if we have complicated ourselves out of common sense. It seems like the more “sophisticated” we get, the less we think about the simple things like trust, fairness, and integrity. With all our fancy theories and complicated solutions about business, at the end of the day, all we are left with is a trust problem. The American consumer does not trust the American business. We have equations, quotas, benchmarks, and internal and external strategies…all to help us interact with people. Yet in so many cases, all of these “tools” have made the American business un-human. We have trained ourselves to believe that success is bread from coercion, and power is born from heartlessness.
