I absolutely love small towns. There is something unique and authentic about them. I like the history behind towns and dreaming about the pioneers who started these communities. And whenever I travel, I like to stop and explore the establishments that keep these small towns running day in and day out. I really want to support them. But sometimes I can't.

Gary: I agree with you that Main Street has plenty of challenges. Have you been in Troy, Ohio? I lived there between 2000 - 2002 and it was interesting to see how the main street worked with a roundabout as the town's hub. The main event was the Strawberry Festival during the summer.

I look forward to visit Parker, CO.

When I think about Main St America, I think about the movie "Cars", when Lighting and Sally are sitting up high watching all of the motorists bypassing their small town (due to the new Interstate Highway) on their way to their final destination.

Unfortunately, Main St isn't convenient enough for most travelers who sacrifice discovering new things over saving a few minutes on the road.

I'm fortunate enough to live in a town with an active Main St, though there is a huge superplex being developed around the corner and it has everyone concerned.

@Lyceum, I think it's going to take a whole lot more than Social Media to revitalize Main Street. Traffic patterns, consumer habits (why park and walk when you can hit the drive thru?)and a lack of investment are all challenges for any Main St.

I just recently returned from Parker Colorado, and they have done a tremendous job revitalizing their Main St. It's not big, but it's once again become a hub for social/family activities for the town.

Don't you think that Main Street America will become the new "glocal" (global & local at the same time), if they use social media activities like Location-Based Services in a smart way? I would be happy to help out small town businesses with that! :) I really enjoyed my interview with Becky McCray in 2010.
