Intrafocus did a great job interviewing business executives about the practical usage of business scorecard. They published the results of their research in "Annual Business/Balanced Scorecard Survey - 2013." I've analyzed the results of survey in the article:
http://www.bscdesigner.com/companies-fail-to-implement-scorecards.htm
Main findings:
-- Most companies fail to use balanced/business scorecards for management, the usage is limited to measurement tasks;
-- Business scorecard in most interviewed companies are still used by top management only and are not cascaded to lower levels;
-- Many executives don't distinguish between KPIs and metrics;
-- Most companies still use spreadsheets for business scorecard and are not getting expected results.
Survey results: a typical "business scorecard" is a measurement tool in a spreadsheet that doesn't help much
