Yelp: Beyond the Listing
"Hi Brad, nice write-up. Just saw something over on Marketing Land that's very interesting. It's a summary of a Havard Business School paper that investigates the tendencies of Yelp review fraud practitioners. The paper itself can get dense (there are formulas!) but definitely worth the read. I'll submit it myself to Bizsugar. http://marketingland.com/yelp-more-likely-to-filter-extreme-reviews-new-accounts-study-53622"Reality Check: Google Isn't 'Killing' Organic Search - Search Engine Watch (#SEW)
"A good rant every once in a while isn't all bad. We'll see whether the changes are better in the long run. I like the new carousel view that Google is using for restaurants, hotels, etc. It seems to give more visual real estate to businesses that tend to their Google+ listings, or Zagat review history."How Google is Killing Organic Search
"The small form factor of a mobile phone is a real concern. Interestingly though, maybe the carousel view on tablets will ultimately increase actions taken due to its visual nature. Of course, not every industry type will be affected by the carousel. Getting ready to share a Search Engine Watch retort to Harris's blog. Here's the direct URL, it should be up on BizSugar later today. http://searchenginewatch.com/article/2280781/Reality-Check-Google-Isnt-Killing-Organic-Search"How Google is Killing Organic Search
"Thanks! Not sure what you're seeing abroad, in the US we're seeing local results on certain hospitality keywords like restaurant/hotel/bar, etc. that look considerably different from the traditional organic search results. See this article below, you'll notice the large horizontal "carousel" at the top that scrolls left to right. http://searchengineland.com/google-officially-launches-knowledge-graph-carousel-for-local-search-163809"How Google is Killing Organic Search
"I believe it started as a view for tablets. Recently moved to desktops, and rolled out to many more keywords/phrases. Here's a great digest of keywords found to trigger the carousel view. http://blumenthals.com/blog/2013/06/29/keywords-that-trigger-the-local-carousel-a-compilation/"Boundaries… where do you draw the line as a business owner?
"Martina, you've hit on some universal ideas here. The productivity drain of "brain picking" sessions can be substantial. Maybe it's worth putting a price tag on those sessions from the start, at least for the garden-variety requests. You could always make the decision to waive that if you think the session would be mutually beneficial. "How I Have Utilized LinkedIn to Attract More Freelance Business Clients
"This should go without saying, but proofreading is really important on LinkedIn. I continue to see egregious spelling & grammar mistakes there. Misspellings on Facebook & Twitter (from personal profiles, mind you) are more acceptable, since they mirror aspects of the texting world. But do this on LinkedIn, you're automatically out of the conversation. Wrote a blog about a while back, I'll dig it up & post to BizSugar. In the meantime, here's the link. http://www.stingraysocial.com/1/post/2012/05/spelling-on-linkedin-surprising-numbers.html"Subscribe
Yelp More Likely To Filter Extreme Reviews & New Accounts [Study]
"Exactly - take the energy (and $$) you expend on your crummy review scheme & instead do something awesome in your business. Then do some legit PR w/ local media. Much better payoff."
