6 Easy Ways to Make Your Small Business Technology Last Longer
"Hi Shawn. You bring up a very good point about inexpensive tech. I had initially written that "Business-grade" article with only critical technology in mind. Things that could shut your business down if they were out of commission. Feedback on that article actually prompted me to write a follow-up post that addressed that point, because you're right-- there's nothing wrong with using inexpensive, easily replaceable technology in certain circumstances. Thanks for your comment!"Why I Ditched the Desktop & Switched to a Laptop to Help Me Run My Small Business
"Hi Sherry. Agreed, working on a shared laptop when you travel is workable, but isn't always the easiest and certainly a lot more planning is required (copying over files/installing programs/etc). Thanks for your comment!"« previous1 next »

4 Reasons Why Small Businesses Shouldn’t Switch to Windows 8 Pro
"Good question Heather. Primarily, the advice in this article is focused on non-touchscreen devices, like the laptops and desktops already in small business environments, or even for new purchases. The real crux of the problem is that there are certain ares of Windows 8 Pro that more or less require a keyboard and mouse to be usable (the old school desktop interface and applications like Office 2013) and there are other areas (Start screen and Win 8 Apps) that only really make sense with a touchscreen. This means that no matter the device you're using, Surface Pro or otherwise, there are usability compromises. My advice is that businesses shouldn't be afraid to experiment with the Surface Pro and other tablets, but they definitely need to be prepared to provide some solid end-user training, and they shouldn't go all-in with these new devices until they're sure the business need is there."
