I spent many years in direct marketing roles and it can be a tricky practice ensuring good, quality data. But the mailing and processing costs alone should be a motivator to get it right. "I think if you are serious about turning your blog into a business then go the WordPress route... if its just a blog then the free Blogger platform is a good option. But I really regretted not starting with WordPress for several of my blogs (now in the process of moving what is left on blogger) now that I understand how flexible WordPress is for a business oriented site that is more than a blog.
