Summer 2012 will bring the Olympics to the UK, with several million spectators following closely behind.

This is seen widely across business as a real opportunity to increase profit in a time of austerity. Criticisms of the cost have arisen; but many advantages are brought with the extra footfall.....

I'm surprised that England still has laws in place restricting business hours on Sundays. The US had "blue laws" many years ago, which sought to enforce religious standards of worship times, etc. however these were repealed. I think with the economy in such a state, it might be a good idea to remove these restrictions. Also, allowing Sunday hours would provide jobs for people who don't mind working those days, and so not impinge on other workers' rights. Surely legislation could be formed to allow workers to opt in or out of Sunday hours?

There could be so much more to talk about here. I'd love to get a dialog going about the subject of the UK economy, but I'm afraid it might be too much of a hot button issue. For now, this post has provided food for thought, so thanks for the submission!
