JackieP thanks for this post, great info here! I´ve seen companies that overpromote on social networks as twitter, they almost become spam. How often we should promote? is there a limit on the number of tweets/posts per day or week?

Hi Corina, thanks for your comments. I agree we've all seem the shamless self promotion tactics, and it gets annoying to say the least.

With regard to promotion, its not really so much the volume of the promoting, but rather the content of what your promoting thats the issue.

Myself I probably send out 10 or so tweets a day, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. But out of those tweets, there is usually only one link that refers to me, eg a link to a blog post, or to connect with me on facebook, or check out the newsletter. Every other tweet will be sharing content of others or useful information that can help people or inspire. So it doesn't matter if you tweet 50 times a day, just so long as its not all about you.

Hope that's helpful.

Good ideas Jackie. I have found certain of choosing how to promote your business depends on what you want to achieve. For example some are better if you want to attract customers versus others. Deciding which ones to use can be a little confusing for small businesses. What do you think?

Hi Susan, yes I totally agree. You have to have a clear objective in mind before selecting the route to market so to speak, I do believe this is where the confusion stems from. Many small business owners can be so busy trying to capture "as much market as possible" through "as many outlets as possible", that their message tends to become diluted, leaving them with poor results.

Focus can be the difference that makes the difference.
