I think we need to have a much broader look at metrics--we need to put metrics in place, at all levels of the organization, that help us track and manage our own performance. They have to be meaningful indicators to help us see whether we are on track or not. They have to be timely, enabling us to identify challenges and put in place corrective actions to achieve our quotas. They have to be aligned with the overall business goals and strategies--sometimes just making quota is not sufficient. Sometimes we need to look at the mix of products we've sold, the customers we've acquired or retained, our growth in new markets, or any number of other things.
