Interesting meetup footage, Chris. I don't know if your video camera has the option, but if possible, see if you can get a Uni-Directional microphone w/a "super cardioid" pickup pattern. That will cut most of the background chatter & let the subject's voice come through more clearly. I'm guessing the one on your camera is Omni-Directional.

Whoa, sounds like you know your camera or AV. I just have a little handheld Flip Phone. I am trying to find a clip on mic for it, but this video was actually made ad hoc. I am searching for one so hopefully I will have something soon.
