Day of Week: When possible, end your auction on Sunday. Saturday is your second choice, but it isn't nearly as good as Sunday. Time of Day: Aim at ending your eBay auction at 9 pm (+/- 1 hour) Central Time. Second option: the following 3 hours. More in the post...

These findings concur exactly with my own observations, Geno. If I was selling, I'd try to close nearer to the earlier side on a Sunday evening, in case people looking at similar items blow their dough on the 1st thing that night. If you close near the end of the line, a lot of the disposable money is already gone, and there might not be the hoped for "bidding war".

As a buyer, I've got some good deals by bidding on items closing after similar much higher ticket items - the big money is gone, now I can bid in relative safety. (This all applies more to one-of-a-kind items, antiques, etc., not new stuff that's always on.)

Very good to hear this. I've advised my wife to start her auctions tonight, and go for 5 days (until Sunday evening). So, we'll see... :)
