The quality of your life is determined by the quality of your habits. Have enough good ones and you’ll be successful. Accumulate too many bad habits (such as biting your nails or excessive email checking) and you are headed for disaster.

The big question is how to break bad habits? Why do you have them in the first place? How long does it take to break a habit?

I found reading this article really useful. From reading it, I'm thinking it's not about getting rid of the habit, it's about getting rid of the trigger (or minimising it). I've been focusing on the habit, not the trigger. Thanks a lot for the post.

Kosio: Could you mention some business leaders who have described their transformation from bad habits and replacing them with good habits?

Very interesting question, Martin, thank you!

A good example that comes to mind is Richard Branson. He often describes himself as being timid and shy as a young entrepreneur, something he had to overcome in order to reach the success he has achieved.

I've read interviews where he mentions how terrified he was of public appearances and especially of public speaking and how he had to learn to motivate himself instead of relying on external factors and that is what got him over his fear.

In short, the bad habit was relying on others to motivate you and he replaced it with self-reliance.
