One of the first harsh realities that every entrepreneur has to learn is that most of the things that are critical to startup success are outside of their direct control. Just because you dream it and build it, doesn’t mean they will come – that encompasses not only customers, but also investors, partners, team members, and even your own family. They won’t come if they don’t trust you.

The trust and loyalty of of your customer base is the BIGGEST asset you can have. I focus on building trust with my the new people who subscribe to my list immediately by emailing live video of me introducing myself and letting them know what to expect from me. This seems to be received well by my subscribers.

Martin: Interesting business example with trappist monks. The whole thing is that they shouldn't commit in worldly activities and instead focus on prayer. Don't they take the teachings in the monastery on "blind faith"?

I must admit that I enjoy one product made by monks: trappist beer! ;)
