Even a Non-Profit Startup Needs a Revenue Model

A common misconception I often hear in the startup world is that non-profits are easy and safe, since they don’t have to pay taxes, and they don’t have to make a profit for their shareholders. In reality, from the feedback I get from non-profit executives, exactly the opposite is true.

This article is definitely needed for those thinking of starting a nonprofit. You still need to raise money AND manage that money well to serve your mission. And in some regards you need to manage even better than a for profit because someone is looking over your shoulder to see how you manage your books - your funders. As important and this is, budget management is not the same as developing a strategic revenue model.  Nonprofits that are most successful are those that recognize the twin drivers of a clear organizational strategy and a strategic approach to developing revenues. Thanks for sharing.
