Some may say the founders of Instagram were lucky; in the first week of launch, they got 100,000 users, and within two years they sold it for $1 Billion. But like most business successes, you don’t hear about the trials and tribulations they faced behind the scenes to get them to victory.
Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, the founders of Instagram, originally started with a check in app called Burbn. They found it didn’t get much traction, and a lot of people were basically using it to take photos. Instead of looking at their original check in idea as a failure, they looked at the new opportunity that it presented instead. On the first day, more than 25,000 photos were uploaded! They knew they were onto something big. Instead, they changed course, and set out with Instagram; a photo sharing app.
