I've been hearing about ecology, etc. my whole life - but that's not half of it. It's not new, but every 10 years or so they "reinvent" the terminology for the new generation so they Think it's new - it's Theirs.
It actually goes back at least to 19thC Europe - the Romantic Era's obsession with what has been termed Naturalism - when they had Malthus defining how over-population would affect global starvation, and books like Walden Pond, etc.
None of this 'green/recycle' bit is new - sometimes that bugs me. I remember the 1st Earth Day thinking it was a 1-off.
