It's an iconic commercial, unforgettable for those who were growing up in 1970s America.

Hi Yoni.

I've been hearing about ecology, etc. my whole life - but that's not half of it. It's not new, but every 10 years or so they "reinvent" the terminology for the new generation so they Think it's new - it's Theirs.

It actually goes back at least to 19thC Europe - the Romantic Era's obsession with what has been termed Naturalism - when they had Malthus defining how over-population would affect global starvation, and books like Walden Pond, etc.

None of this 'green/recycle' bit is new - sometimes that bugs me. I remember the 1st Earth Day thinking it was a 1-off.

One of the more poignant of the public service announcements and one which showed the power of a 30 second tv spot to work on attitudes. I doubt that anyone who saw this in the 1970's ever forgot the Indian (Native American) with the tear running down his cheek.
