Franchise Mathematics; How Many More Franchise Broker Networks Do We Need?
"Martin, I hope Joel does not mind my addressing your question :-)...franchise brokers started to get big in the states around the early 90s... They started to show up in the 80s but during that time most of the franchise sales efforts were done internally by franchise companies. In the 90 brokers started to gain gradual acceptance and in 2008 according to the 2008 Annual Franchise Development Report published by Franchise Update Media Group, brokers provided 16% of the sales up from 14% for 2007 but lower than at its highest of 29% in 2004. Check my latest blog entry on this subject http://bit.ly/mswBB In my international experience the concept of brokers is yet to take hold. I think it is something that will work rather well there. I know some of the US brokers represent US companies overseas and some foreign companies are doing the same to get in the US. But I think that a network of brokers in Europe, for example, serving European franchisors and investors would do very well. My 2 cents :-) Lizette"
