A Business Diatribe: My Problem with the Fitness Industry (How It Puts Us In Mortal Danger Every Day!)
"Although I understand the point presented in the comment area here, once again, as I've posted on Dino Dogan's "Corporations Must Die" post, let's look at the baseline Yoni presented. Although he used gym equipment and prisoners as the basis of the message, the base message deals with ethics in business. I very much agree that such things seem to be lacking in this day and age. It's become a situation where profits are above people, rather than profits being the side product of serving people. The present business model is broken, and I see a needed change coming, motivated by those that get back to basics remembering that business would not exist without those they serve. Therefore, they should take priority above profit. As more learn this, hopefully, and replace those that forgot, we'll eventually see the business climate change. One can at least hope. Thanks Yoni for helping put the ideals out there. Maybe one day our efforts will help affect change. Nice read."A Business Diatribe: My Problem with the Fitness Industry (How It Puts Us In Mortal Danger Every Day!)
"I'd tend to agree Duncan, it is better, but still has a long way to go. The irony is, there was a time earlier it seemed that they at least put customer before profit...although the child labor thing isn't the greatest I'll admit."Business History and Ethics: The Fatal Ford Pinto and Why It's Crucial to Test Your Product Before Selling It!
"Nice read Yoni, This is just one, of many, prime examples why the present business model is broken. It's the reason for why people continually suffer, not only from buying cars, but a vast majority of other things as well. It's the reason why things like Enron, BP, or *insert your favorite big bubble burst here* happen. It's a methodology of greed, putting profit before people, and I don't see it changing until society and business grow to the understanding that profit should be the side byproduct and BENEFIT of serving people. Somehow, over evolution, business minds seem to have lost that simple principle, and ethics seem widely lost."An Open Letter to Marketers Who Abuse Social Media for Selfish Gain
"OMG, ROFLMAO, priceless...and I quote from this post "The Social Web is not your "traffic honey hole."" I'll be back to amend this post, but I HAD to vote this and comment for the initial. A VERY nice read Duncan, however, I think the main issue relates to all the noise out there from the "gurus" ranking so high in search results that don't have a clue. They spread information encouraging everyone, business, new initiates, etc. to game the systems...ANY system as the means to obtain metrics. I've been trying to tell people for YEARS now that metrics are a TERRIBLE yardstick for ANYTHING but sales. Sheer volume is not the answer, bigger is not always better, and in the end, QUALITY always wins out over quantity. The analogy I like to use the most, concerning volume/quantity, relates to website traffic and monetization as example. If we have a website predominately catering to 50 year old single males, and we decide to put up links for them to buy 5" pink pumps, no matter how many we drive in volume, our chances of sales is pretty dismal. Quality would mean people wanting to buy such things, and driving them in QUALITY volume. Some, I think, will just never get it. They can't get out of the super sized world and bigger is better thought. I wish you luck in helping me convince them otherwise :)"Don’t Respond to Biz Sugar Comments: You Might Lose a Reader & A Voter
"Even before reading, I glanced at the comments, and just have this to say before heading off to read... BizSugar IS technically a social networking website. Isn't the whole idea of social networking building and nurturing connections and relationships? :) Anywho, nice title Heidi, it got my attention, and I am now off to look. I'll be back to comment on what the article is about through an edit of this comment :) *** Addendum*** Not much more I can add Heidi, although that website is a bit long in length since your last post :) Wish there was something a bit newer here to see your present interests, but as you're probably busy with 2 businesses, I can see why maybe you don't submit so much. Yes, we are busy, we write, we serve people, we run around through different social media trying to build relationships, connect, network, and a host of other things. Sometimes it's daunting, other times it's filled with great experiences and incredible connections with people, and a whole myriad of other things in between. Yes, a notification would be nice here to let us know. It gets kinda hard tracking multiple submissions for comments here :) Nice post, good points, and I hope you're realizing great success with both businesses. Thanks for your kind words on one of my posts recently as well :) I'll forgive you if you don't reply to this one since it seems your submissions have slowed down, and I wouldn't expect you to track the ones you did :)"« previous12 next »
