I'd opt for the brandable domain name. I chose to house my blog on my own name as the domain name and it's worked well for me. Now I have people actually searching for my brand name and my domain name pops up, plus I also get random seo traffic as well even thought I'm not directly trying to, which is cool too. Branding is what I'm aiming for; it has more benefits and goes a lot faster in my opinion.
