Should you drop the F-Bomb in your blog posts or not? The two camps on this issue are the 'authentic' camp and the 'swearing is offensive' camp. But there's another viewpoint you should think about - that of the writer. This post examines the F Bomb from the writer's viewpoint.

I agree on all counts, Paul - the authenticity BS factor, the stream of consciousness factor (who would publish their initial ramblings?), the idea that writing (for posterity) is Not the same as talking, and most of all your idea that intelligent word-choice is different than talking (rather than just going for shock value).

The biggest BS is that the ones who enjoy shocking us do NOT really talk that way in all circumstances - like around their Mom, Grandma, nuns, small children (unless they're total idiots), and co-workers they know are offended by bad language. The ones who insist this is the real them are referring to how they talk when they're out with their drinking buddies.
