Allison, I enjoyed reading this post. I agree that website design and layout are the one of the most important things to increase conversion and usability.

It's also important that you have a clear cut designation for where your visiotrs can subscribe to your blog to continue to get updates from you.

I've seen so many websites/blogs that have no optin form on their pages and they wonder why they're having such a hard time converting their traffic into clients and customers - poor layout and design is the very reason.

We have to remember, especially in the blogging world - if you're doing this to make money and want to build a true online business, you have to drive traffic, provide great content, and have a simple easy to use website that's focused on building a subscriber/customer list.

Hi Allison,

I think many bloggers may be undecided or uncertain about what they want their blog to accomplish in the beginning. Is it to drive traffic to ads and affiliate links? Is it to establish your expertise or market your services? Is it to collect leads? The reason is very important, because it will determine how you set up your blog and all subsequent posts.
