As a small company, PR can seem daunting and a luxury for larger companies who can afford it, are already experiencing some WOM (word-of-mouth) or buzz, and who are already making profits. While it may be easier to perform PR tasks with larger budgets to play with, public relations is something small businesses should definitely partake in.

I would argue some of these things are becoming more important whole others are becoming less. Press releases, for example, are certainly valuable even in the online world. But even published on a number of good PR content Websites they will never duplicate the overall SEO factor of a concentrated blogging or social media campaign. Of course, there are certainly many other reasons they could be valuable.
