Because getting media exposure is just one element involved in marketing a book. When authors ask me, “I’ve been on the radio and in the newspaper, and it got me just three book sales, why am I not selling books?” I respond with a few questions for them.

Arguably these same points are true about marketing anything. I would also say persistence is a major factor. No matter what you are trying to sell, ongoing marketing is necessary. Too many people seem to believe a brief flurry of publicity, no matter how encompassing, is enough to generate sales. Very often, though, this is just the first step.
