Though I think it's probably a good idea to always seek out your boss in such situations and determine their impression of your performance, it's probably also a good idea for a manager or owner to be clear about expectations. In the end, the company suffered from this decision with a less experienced sales manager who I'm guessing didn't do much for sales revenue. What more could have been accomplished by simply trying to rectify the situation first instead of taking a grass is greener attitude with human resources?
