Networking is all about building relationships. Treat everyone in your network as people, not numbers. And build genuine relationship with them.

As a certified networker (by ReferensAkademin in Sweden, franchise from USA, the Referral Institute), this post is music for my ears. One tip is to start working with a score card for your networking activities.

Hey Matthew,

Great post, but I'd make one additional point here. While many people come into this world with natural networking talents and outgoingness, if you look at this list and just don't see these qualities in yourself, don't be discouraged. Life is a great teacher and many of these skills can be learned. The most important tip of all from this respect is to "get out there." It's the fastest way to start acquiring the skills you need.

Well said! It takes a lot of courage to go out of your comfort zone and when you do, it feels awesome. Never hesitate to try new things and network with other people. After all, we're naturally haywired to make connections and friends.
