Do you use Twitter direct messages as part of your social media strategy? Personally my DM folder on Twitter is basically a dead-letter box. How about you?

I used to do auto DMs to people who follow me but it's not a good strategy. So using it no more. Directly tweeting by mentioning a follower is a better idea. :)

I agree with you Avi. It's more social to tweet too.

I hate auto direct messages - thankfully I don't get that many. I also don't like when someone I don't really know prefers to chat with me on DM's when it can just as easily be done openly - that is what twitter is about after all - engaging with people. I mainly use DM's to chat privately with my close friends and colleagues so it isn't a dead mailbox - but it's not there for business. Thanks for sharing on Bizsugar.com

Sian, I agree with you about engaging with people openly. I don't use DM's for private conversations. I do use the messaging on Facebook in that way but most of my personal conversations are through messaging on LinkedIn or personal email.

Nice post, I have about 5 business twitter accounts and my main account has few spam DMS which I don't even read or check my Dm messages because It has no value for me.

Thanks for sharing your view with us.

Thanks for weighing in on this. 5 business accounts seems like a lot to manage. It's good to hear from others who don't read their DM's either. I was surprised to hear from a few readers who actually do use them.
