Frank Capra's inventive 1946 classic It's a Wonderful Life describes the life – and absence – of George Bailey, a resident of little Bedford Falls who discovers what the world would be like had he never lived. Among the many instructive incidents of George's life, the run on the Bailey Savings and Loan seems particularly timely. When local investors panic and try to withdraw their money from the Bailey family business, George attempts to calm the crowd with an impromptu breakdown of the little firm's investment portfolio, describing how local savings are benefiting the community.
