Last year there were 227,000 angel investors that invested $23 billion into start-ups, up 3% from 2004, according to the University of New Hampshire’s Centre for Venture Research. In 1996 there were only about ten angel groups in the U.S.; today there are more than 200. The chart below from CB Insights provides a nice ranking of the most notable angel investors and some of the startup investments they have made.
