Fantastic post here. You brought out several valid points. I agree with not having an ad frenzy on your site. I used to do this when I first started blogging years ago, and it definitely did not work for me, lol. Luckily since then I've wised up quite a bit and redesigned my entire blog. Now my layout is clean and crisp where the focus is my content.
As far as blog popups are concerned, I would have to say that having these depends on the purpose of your blog. I currently have a popup on my blog and it serves its purpose extremely well. Yes, I can understand that this can be annoying, however, the main purpose of my blog is to build my subscriber list. As of right now, my blog popup converts the highest for me with achieving this goal, so to do away with it wouldn't make any sense to me.
