I’ve noticed a great tendency among startup founders to ignore the essentials of business accounting in the early stages of their startup. Just because you are not profitable yet, doesn’t mean you can skip the record keeping.

I think the major problem with many entrepreneurs is that they don't think of the business model first. It's great to have an idea for a product or service and understandable that you may want to find investors to really make it work, but I think it's problematic when business ideas start up without the team involved having ever even thought about how, at some point in the future, this venture will make money.
