The Highest Calling: an inspirational business book
"Hi Marcia, The author offers a money-back guarantee -- so that's something to consider. Also, I wouldn't view it solely as a book. It's more like a self-study program in rethinking your business. It doesn't have a workbook or anything like that. But it does have the writing journal to encourage you to start on your journey of working ON your business and not just IN the business. - Anita"Will More Debt Help Small Business and the Economy?
""Arnold has been living with Democrats too long" - LOL. The thing is that legislators want to prove they are doing something. Sometimes, though, "doing something" means having the self control and foresight not to interfere.... Because after all, the rest of us just end up paying a lot more in taxes and it depresses hiring by small businesses."It's the Conservatives, Silly - Why the Wall Street Journal Grows While Other Papers Shrink
"The conservative Fox News is beating CNN and MSNBC with a stick. The best that CNN can do is battle it out with MSNBC for 2nd place. As this article (http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/02/02/in-january-cnn-overtakes-msnbc/) points out: "Similarly, among total viewers in prime time Fox News was unapproachable with 2.94 million viewers. But CNN grabbed second place for the month with 946,000 to MSNBC's 838,000." That would suggest there really is something to that conservative connection. I flip around to all news channels, but I keep going back to Fox. And I can tell you it's not because of the quality of the coverage (I would hardly describe Fox as high quality coverage). I flip back to them because I get sick watching America-bashers like Christianne Amanpour. I'm not here to argue politics. But as a matter of business sense, if more news organizations would get in sync with the American public, they might have more subscribers and viewers. Just saying...."Tough Advice for Small to Medium Sized Business. Do you agree?
"Fear is actually paralyzing, not motivating. And paying vendors late is an ignorant thing to do when they're small businesses. On the other hand, I did agree in part with a few things he said. (1) I liked the part where he said he'd die laughing about The Four Hour Workweek. That was a book with some good points in it, but it did a terrible disservice to an entire generation of budding entrepreneurs by misleading them into thinking the path to success is working half a day a week - something that will be untrue for 99.99% of people. (2) I think a little micromanagement is crucial if you want to be successful. But not because employees are mediocre. It's because it takes time and repetition to convey all your values, your knowledge, etc to people. If you want to be a successful leader you must "inspect what you expect.""Help for U.S. Small Business Faces Trouble In Congress
"It's tempting to think the government can "help" small businesses. But no intelligent small business owner is going to go ahead and hire someone based on a temporary $5,000 amount, unless they have enough customer business to pay for that person's salary longer-term. In the end, I think we need government to stay out of business's hair, keep taxes low, and quit spending so much of our money. Then businesses will feel more confident about hiring. And the economy will recover - without all this artificial "stimulus" and help -- which burdens us with more taxes in the long run."Subscribe
