The Independent Contractor tends to get an bad rap -- most people believe that they would prefer to be known as employees. In spite of this, a very large majority of home-based jobs will require that you apply as an Independent Contractor. While there are a few negatives, there are plenty of positives relating to Independent Contractor status that are deserving of mention.

Hi Anna.

I'm not so sure the 'no benefit's bit translates into more pay. If you mean they'd pay even less if they had benefits, yes, but I think the main reason employers want independent contractors is that it's so much easier for Them. Not only no benefits, but no deductions, no unemployment, and no worker's comp - for starters. i.e A million less hassles for them, regardless of the employees problems.
