Everything in the online world is a reflection of the offline world. More of us offline have to ask "What would I do offline?" ...then figure out how that would work online.

Nice post. Promotions are a good example of how traditional marketing techniques are becoming more and more part of the online marketing scene. In the last few years promotions have seen a lot of use to generate buzz and links in order to create SEO benefits. Things like competitions to encourage blog comments would be a good example of merging traditional marketing with online goals.

I agree with you that tactics are finding their way online and I think there will be more of a focus of generating sales than just buzz. Your example is an interesting one and I have seen this occur in just the last few weeks on a blog. The writer asked the readers a question to be left in the comments area to win a prize.
