Good points, Stephanie.

I think a lot of this has to do with attitude... If you give over that following up on the relationship is important to you, and that you are still holding all the details of the previous encounter with this person, then most of the time your belated follow-up efforts will be successful. We're all human, and most of us know the difficulties, first-hand of juggling many responsibilities simultaneously.

But when you come in expecting to be forgotten and rejected, when you don't value what you have to offer the other or the ensuing relationship that may emerge, then *you* create a failure before you've even started.

I have a regular schedule to follow up leads. On occasion, I even follow the schedule. More often, though, I play catch up far too late. But it still works.
