In the early '60's the 4 day work week was already postulated. Unfortunately, the mid '70's gasoline crunch saw many Americans buying Japanese cars. All the sudden there was real outside (non-Detroit "Big 3") competition. Since then it's been 24/7. There's too many competitors willing to work till they drop to consider a viable 4 day week unless you're gearing down toward retirement, or are independently wealthy & working for pleasure.
