An old expression on music is: "Music is the universal language - it speaks to everyone."
My own thought an All art is: "If the artist has to explain their work to be understood, they failed - period!" (Art is about communicating an idea or feeling through art, not blather.) I came up with this after reading/hearing so many explanations of modern art like this: "You don't understand, the artist was...". (I Did understand, but maybe I didn't like their work.)
