If your confidence is low about starting your own business, and you are tempted to “reduce the risk” by signing up for one of the many “work at home” startup offers you see, think again! These offers that you see on every social network and Craigslist are invariably scams.

Hi Martin,

Agree with you about many "business opportunities." The main problem is that, whether the system is real or a scam, it is still someone else's business model not yours. The other problem is that, just like buying a franchise, it is necessary to really understand basic business principles first. You cannot buy a money machine (or a job) that will simply make a living for you without any effort on your part. Your business must create value and you must have a plan for successfully marketing this value to others. If you don't know how a model creates value and have no plan or don't think you need a plan to market that value, you are in serious trouble. Finally, it's sad these things are called work-at-home businesses, because it devalues working at home even though doing so, if applicable to your business model, is probably the best way of cutting down on overhead for your startup. The problem isn't working at home. It's what you're doing there.
