20 Reasons Why You Will Never Sell Your Business
"Hi Ian, Point number two is an interesting one because so many small business owners are told early on and even today to focus on existing customers instead of always being in acquisition mode. This advice may be fine for big brands like Apple, who perhaps focus on fans more than, say, Microsoft does, but still have an immense fan base. Shift this to a smaller company that may have only a few big clients and obviously telling that business not to focus on acquiring new customers is bad advice. "Five Ways To Tell Google What Your Website Is About
"Hi Greg, As far as optimized content, it's possible to overdo this. As you point out, optimizing multiple pages for the same keyword theme is a bad idea. In fact, according to Google, it can bring diminishing returns. Google's Matt Cutts did a video not so long ago about the dangers of optimizing every page of a website with the same exact keywords. So scream, but not too loud. Thanks for sharing with the BizSugar community."Should Your Employees Stay Connected on Vacation?
"Hi Maria and Rieva, Reading this post gave me mixed feelings. First, I don't think any business should expect its employees to work at all during their vacation. It defeats the purpose of vacation, which is to rest from work. But as your article states, employees themselves get stressed out if they're not able to connect. This is absolutely true. So as long as employees can connect on their own terms during vacation time, I think it's okay. And by "their own terms" I don't mean by using just any public connection. They should still use the VPN or whatever's been approved by the company. But the company should make sure there are no expectations of the employee during this time. As small business people, it's really hard to disconnect from your business and your work, but the thing that makes it a business and not a hobby or freelance job is that your critical work is handled by competent employees you've hired...the business exists as a separate entity from you. You should be able to take a break without it all falling apart. "Hi Shannon, This is an awesome post, and thanks for providing the recipe for the moss! I'm trying for the life of me to figure where this would actually work without one having to revisit the site and water the stuff--thereby increasing one's chances of getting caught or at least recognized. Maybe on the side of block walls in the south and humid mid-Atlantic states? Unfortunately I don't think this will work in the Southwest or any dry state. In any case, it really makes you think how to "green" your marketing efforts--even the guerrilla ones! Thanks so much for contributing this post to BizSugar, too! Keep these great posts coming!"7 Traits Professional Bloggers Must Have
"Hey John Paul. This is a good list, and not just for bloggers but for almost all entrepreneurs, I think. What I especially like is that this list covers bloggers with a wide range of goals. So, in other words, not just those generating revenue directly from their blogs but also, say, those using blogging for brand building, evangelism, or driving traffic to another business. Growing Pains: The Pinch Points Of Starting Up
"Ha! Olwen, I like your point about "the knowing...and the not-knowing." Ain't it the truth? And ultimately I'd argue it leads to most of the other challenges we face. This is the real reason for a plan. Because if you can't envision your business as it should be, or as you think it should be, you'll forever allow your uncertainties to lead you in circles. Thanks to Sian for sharing this with the BizSugar community. "
