Your Comments Suck and I Don’t Want Them: A Manifesto
"Figured I'd weigh in Tristan. I think that people can tell when a comment is real. Sometimes I see stuff like Nice Job! Or Great Article! When you see something like that you can't even be sure that somebody read the article. When you see a reference or two in the comment to the article, you know the person actually read the article and considered it. Whether there is a following compliment or criticism it is nice to know somebody took the time. I'm not sure where I stand on the issue of strategy but I agree that the comments here and the feelings that it arouses show that this article really got people thinking about an improtant topic. "Franpro, I have an uncle who owns a fitness club in Connecticut. He says that about 80% of the income comes from members who don't even come. He explains that a lot of people join with the expectation of going every day then it becomes twice a week then a few times a month. Then since the guy doesn't look like Arnold and the girl doesn't look like Elle (they expect instant results) they lose their motivation and stop going but keep on paying. The marketing is good but the member motivation is sometimes lacking. Rochelle Rochelle "Spring is in the air…find your inner George Steinbrenner!
"It brought to my mind Marty from Marty's Mowers. He sponsored our softball team. The investment on jerseys was probably minimal and it gave us a good feeling that somebody cared. It was a good investment for him with advertising and he did offer our parents 10% off the purchase of a new mower. "Yoni, I really like the lesson of the personal touch. So many salespeople that I run into don't give a crap about customers. I've been in stores lately where nobody even approaches customers. Andy is really an example of how to treat people right and I enjoyed hearing about him. Rochelle Rochelle"Subscribe
Richard Branson: An Inspiration for Entrepreneurs
"What I like about Richard Branson is not just his business. He is an adventurer. He tried flying a balloon around the world. He flies. He drives a race car. He is building a spaceship. What appeals to me is the risks he takes and his free spirit. Rochelle Rochelle"
