John Brown: American Hero & 19th Century Radical Abolitionist as a 21st Century Business-Model
"Shawn, Thanks so much! I have been wanting to write this piece for a while. You are right about dear Quentin. I'm afarid J.B. will be totin' an Uzi and cruising around in a Dodge Viper instead of his trusty horse. In all serious though, it will be a bloodbath! It is quite the bloody story though I'm sure Quentin will add to it. Thanks for the compliment! Yoni"John Brown: American Hero & 19th Century Radical Abolitionist as a 21st Century Business-Model
"Sarah, Thanks so much for your feedback! I think you are right...I had a little detractor in my head for about 3.5 years telling me I couldn't be a freelancer. I didn't have the will-power. Wasn't organized. Market was too saturated. So I suffered those 3.5 years with the biggest a**-ho*e of a boss who ever walked the face of the earth. I finally conquered those inner voices of doubt and I'm happy as I could have ever imagined! All the best, Yoni"John Brown: American Hero & 19th Century Radical Abolitionist as a 21st Century Business-Model
"Susan, Thanks for your wonderful comments. One of the reasons I love this story is that it has so much relevancy today. J.B. truly was a man of action. He is to be admired, though it must be remembered that it was only really after his death that the true meaning of what he did became apparent. All the best and looking forward to your next post, Yoni "John Brown: American Hero & 19th Century Radical Abolitionist as a 21st Century Business-Model
"David, Thanks for the kind compliment. It would have to be a multi-author, group book because who in the HECK is going to buy a business book from a guy whose business barely turns a profit!?!?!? :) :) It would work though if we ever get our BizSugar Book off the ground! Some chapters on historical aspects of business. It was fun to write though. If you ever see the book "Cloudsplitter" buy it. it is hands down the GREATEST work of historical fiction I have EVER read! Yoni"Lessons In Raising Capital
"Shawn, Nice post! Great information on raising capital. The pitch definitely seems to be the key...a feature which needs to be rock-solid and stand out from the crowd. Maybe one day I'll need it. As you mentioned in some previous posts, however, bootstrapping is a great alternative for those starting on a smaller scope. With my writing business, I already had a computer, in-home office, etc. I once spent about $150 on a pdf. creator. Other than that, I don't believe I have ever spent money on my business. All the best, Yoni"Subscribe
Work-Life Balance: How NOT to Let Your Business Runs Over Your Personal Life
"Great advice Ivan. 1 more: "You want a friend? Get a dog!"--Michael Douglas, Wall Street. Being an at home freelancer can be rather lonely at times...a dog is a great business partner...seriously. In any case, your advice is spot-on. Work hard but leave time for relaxation. Yoni"
