Are Your Blog Posts Yours Once You Hit "Enter" or Are They Up For Grabs?
"Barney, Thanks for the comment! I probably will take your advice and just stop checking, as its less frustrating. I have a friend who posted her profile on ODesk: every place she had ever worked, dates, companies, experience, education, etc. A few months later she Googled her profile and found out that someone else on ODesk had cut and psted everything. He didn't change a word!! She confronted him and it was she that got in trouble?!? ODesk told her that the site is not one for confrontation or recrimination!!?I guess people shouldn't be surprised the CVs, profiles, portfolio items, blogs and articles are hijacked. It's just far too easy to do. It's been happening in the music and movie industries for years with pirated CDs and the like. Not much to be done. Looking forward to your next post! "Mark Harbeke, I'm really floored by your post! It says something quite incredible that these bosses would forego the comforts and luxury of the typical CEO office to do what they do. I'm sure the end product is great results and I'm quite sure their employees respect them greatly for doing so! Thanks!"Does Freelance Mean Free?
"Fiona, when I started out as a freelance writer, I had my skills and knowledge of writing but no portfolio (except for my literary publications which didn't count for "jack") and no testimonials. It was a classic catch-22: no experience meant no jobs and no jobs meant no accumulating experience. I decided to offer "very deep discounts" to people who would allow me to include their projects in my portfolio and give me testimonials (if, of course, they were satisfied). The fact is during that period I almost worked for free. It lasted about three months but during that time I built a great portfolio and received glowing testimonials from clients. It is the best way for a freelancer to build experience and credibility. I think of it as an "internship.""5 Big Worries of a First-Time Blogger – And How to Overcome Them
"Cindy L. (swssem), outstanding post! I've never really seen the topic of fears and worries of blogging being addressed...it made for a very informative and interesting read! All of the worries are legitimate but my advice to anyone who is worried about blogging is this: if you're in business in this day and age you have to blog; I'm a writer by profession, I've been blogging for almost a year, and I still learn from my frequent mistakes. It's a big process of trial-and-error as you search for what works best."The Thin Line Between Editorial & Advertorial
"Nizam (omgzam), Thanks for an excellent post today. You are 100% correct. Blogging has become a great way to advertise a business. Unfortunately as you stated, sometimes the line is crossed between a blog that has a small-sales pitch somewhere in it and those that are outright advertisements with very little content. I also see that you are studying at Singapore Polytechnic in your senior year, so I wanted to wish you great success with your studies! "The Thin Line Between Editorial & Advertorial
"Nizam (Omgzam), Congratulations on your graduation and best of luck in the army! I will pray that you stay safe while serving and protecting your country. So, a big question. Will you still be posting your great blogs while you're in the army? I hope so! Yoni"Subscribe
Why Marketing Tactics Can Harm Your Business
"Susan O.: Another great, information-packed posting from you! You are so right that the "Why" and the "When" are critical in marketing goods and service. I particularly liked your example of Mother's Day. So often businesses market and advertise without the proper context of time, season and "Why." I walked past a store yesterday which was offering discounted winter wear. There was a jacket I might have bought; it was nice and the price was right. It was 93 degrees in Jerusalem yesterday and is supposed to be hot as heck for the next week to ten days. A winter jacket?!!?"
