Five Tips For Your Social Media Neighborhood
"Shawn, Thanks for another great, info-packed posting on the manners and behaviors associated with Social Media in general and BizSugar in particular. You have drawn an excellent analogy between SM/BizSugar and neighborhoods and communities. Sometimes people have a tendency to think that because we are online that our behaviors are less impactful but it's not true. Helfulness and hurtfulness are just as impactful in electronic media. There also seems to be a certain anonymity on the Web whereby people feel that they can say and do things they wouldn't ordinarily do or say in the public realm...the result can oftentimes be hurtful. I must say that in BizSugar I have found my community...it is, in my mind, a respectful place, one where I have made numerous contacts and friendships and one in which I continue to learn from others' articles on a daily basis. Thanks for a great post, Yonatan"How to Avoid the Stereotype Trap in International Marketing and Communication

"Susan, your EXCELLENT post made my day!!! How rich it is in tips, advice and principles for all of our businesses! I saw the story on the news...it was impossible to miss. You are so right that every journey (sailing or business) needs proper planning and marketing. I especially like the words about ignoring your detractors/critics. Our detractors can be so numerous: people telling us it can't be done, people questioning "how" we do it, statistics of small business failure which discourage us from attempting to fulfill our dreams, and perhaps most importantly, that little voice in our heads which says "how can I overcome all of the obstacles and succeed?" This is an inspiring story and an equally inspiring post! Yoni"4 Powerful Marketing Lessons From a Voyage Around the World
"Susan, An excellent piece of additional commentary! You are so right in that there will be bumps along the way in business (hopefully no collisions with tankers!) There were quite a few instances in the beginning when I almost threw my hands up and quit. I'm so glad I stuck with it. If not, I'd be back in an office with my old boss looking over my shoulder instead of where I am right now: my computer table is set up outside, the sun is shining on me, I have a great view of beautiful hills and am sipping a cold glass of lemonade while I work :) :) :)"Subscribe
Win A $200 Scholarship To Small Biz Summit
"Shawn, this is a great post and it is very heartening to read about the scholarship! Perhaps next time, or even this time, if its not too late, you might consider setting up a donation-from-BizSugar-members program. This might assist in covering airfare and accomodations. BizSugar is a great community and I'm quite sure the members would be pleased and proud to support such a venture! We get so much out of BizSugar, it would be a nice chance to give something back!
