This great infographic shares small business news about how social media is really being adopted by small business and even how much success small businesses report seeing after using the tools. As expected, the number of small to medium sized businesses using these services remains low, and so do the percentage of users who say use of the tools has resulted in increased sales. Though the jury is still out, there are businesses that have claimed substantial response to social media marketing, and it seems logical that number will continue to grow over time.

OK. I'll admit it. I'm a huge Star Trek fan, particularly of the vintage 1960's series. And with the growing popularity of a recently launched Star Trek fan site which ranked pretty high on Yahoo! "trending" for Web search earlier last week, I decided to combine my love of pop culture references and online business advice once again. If your product is awesome enough, price shouldn't matter. Check out this small business news applicable to just about everyone. The incredible tree house built by a Swedish architectural firm profiled in this Fast Company article goes for $575 per night. Why? The pictures and description speak for themselves. How many other similar experiences like this are there out there? Does Holiday Inn offer comparable accommodations? Certainly not. So the price of a stay at a traditional hotel compared to one in this incredible tree house is really unimportant. Can your products and services make your competitors unimportant? They can if they're incredible.

Ready, camera, action! Call me a slow burner, but I have only started following the developments of ‘The Social Network’ after their first full theatrical trailer was published on Yahoo Movies. In case you’re wondering what I’m talking about, the movie re-enacts the story about the founders of Facebook with a befitting tagline, “You don’t get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies.”

These days, many people have started a blog for hobby or business. The trouble is, with so much competition out there, your blog really has to stand out from the crowd. In fact, not only does your blog need to stand out from the average ones that are popping up every day, but you also need to compete with established blogs, with their loyal fan bases, that have been around for years. In short, in order to have any impact whatsoever, good is just not good enough. Your blog has to be excellent

Can Apple Save Face?

Three weeks ago I wrote about The strength of Apple's brand as evidenced by the wildly successful launch of the iPhone 4. Since then, however, Apple's brand appeal has taken an incredible hit as the millions of newly purchased phones began dropping calls. The cause of the reception problems are a result of the antenna design, and this report on bloomberg.com suggests that Apple may have known about the problem long before the phone was introduced to the public
