When raising capital for your next business venture, think about the shorter term early exit strategy as a possible approach. Ben Yoskovitz explains this strategy involving a lower initial capital investment and an exit by the founder in 3 to 5 as opposed to 7 to 10 years owning a considerably bigger piece of the company. Ben says early exits are more popular with angels and founders than with VCs, who prefer to invest larger amounts over a longer period. Still, Ben adds, the early exit venture offers the opportunity for a founding entrepreneur to get out early with what he calls "life changing money" and the chance for an angel investor to see a rapid and excellent return Read More

It's been really difficult to find time to blog for the last few weeks, and I have a feeling it's going to get worse before it gets better. I'm taking a couple of evening classes that have turned out to be more time consuming than I expected, plus I've taken on a slightly larger role at work. Add in a little time for exercise (including the mountain bike I bought recently), and a very little time for relaxation, and I'm spent! I definitely enjoy blogging, especially when inspiration strikes, but lately it seems like I've been rushing through it so I can move on to the many other things I need to accomplish.. Read More

We're seeing from sources that the massive financial reform package passed recently by the U.S. Senate will not negatively impact investment in the small business and entrepreneurship community. Time will tell. Tighter regulation might certainly tend to further tighten bank lending but perhaps this isn't the best source of business financing anyway ... Read More

Just last year, I became a mother for the first time. My son just turned one (time flies, doesn’t it?) and after being a full time mom and performing various social media marketing tasks throughout, I’ve learned that there are many parallels that can be taken from parenthood that also apply to social media marketing. In April, a Cinco de Mayo-inspired Facebook promotion drove 8,000 new fans and 370,000 active interactions for El Monterey, a frozen Mexican food brand based in Dinuba, Calif. The “Save on Cinco” campaign asked Facebook fans to share their family savings tips within a branded, game-like Facebook app. Other fans interacted with savings tips (by rating, commenting and sharing) to earn points redeemable for BOGOs, branded merchandise and other prizes. All interactions took place within Bulbstorm’s Idea Challenges application for Facebook promotions Read More

It sure feels that way today! You rarely reach your prospects on the phone and when you do, they quickly brush you off. When you’re in meetings, they want you to get right to the point.

Welcome to the new normal! Your prospects are suffering from.. Read More
