I'd add that customers should be given a choice as to which shipper is used - how good a service is depends on the neighborhood the customer lives in. Where I live, mailboxes are robbed, and UPS always requires a signature (but in other neighborhoods I've lived in, UPS just did the "drop & run" bit). Give them a choice, or lose business - I can't do business with Amazon OR eBay.
