I remember the marshmallow study well as well as some similar tests they have done on monkeys. I think instant gratification is embedded in our psyche. We are a society that doesn't like waiting. Look at people's faces who are lined up at fast-food joints. Their mouths are watering. They are fidgety. They have that far-off look in their eyes. They could go sit down and get a nice meal in a diner but that would entail waiting 15 minutes...not an option :(
