Small Biz Survival: The Number One Complaint About Small Town Businesses
"@Lyceum, I think it's going to take a whole lot more than Social Media to revitalize Main Street. Traffic patterns, consumer habits (why park and walk when you can hit the drive thru?)and a lack of investment are all challenges for any Main St. I just recently returned from Parker Colorado, and they have done a tremendous job revitalizing their Main St. It's not big, but it's once again become a hub for social/family activities for the town. "LOL, never heard the term "Ricktatorship" before....I'll have to include that in the follow up post! People watching the show and members of the group like to second guess Rick, I think most understand that it's not that easy to call the shots when you're running from a zombie herd. I hope Andrea snaps out of it soon and becomes the sharpshooter she is in the comic book. I sound like a soap opera blogger!"When Networking is a Waste of Time - The Small Business Playbook
"It's definitely an interesting topic. I like how you use the term "conversational marketing", that's exactly what it is. While it can be highly effective, it does take time to generate business from as it's an indirect form of marketing."When Networking is a Waste of Time - The Small Business Playbook
"Thanks Heather! The best kind of business you can get is referral business, 90% of the sales process has taken place before they ever contact you. While networking is a must for any business, and can be a great lead generator, one thing that I often see new business owners do is to group together with other new business owners and "band" together to build their businesses. While this is great, sometimes a new business owner will lose sight that they're not actually proactively trying to find new business, which is vital for a new business to survive, especially when you have overhead to meet. "Thanks for the comments Ti! You're right, as a business owner you need to be selfish when it comes to your time, as you only have a finite amount of it. From a time perspective, networking is alot like social media, if you're not careful it can take up a huge portion of your time, so you need to use it wisely. Cheers!"Online Market Research Made Easy With Google Consumer Surveys
"Google Consumer Surveys is a new form of "self serve" market research platform directed to the business owner and marketing agency. As far as I know, there isn't anything that does exactly what Google Consumer Surveys does. From my own experience, what i've used in the past are: Survey Monkey. You can create your own surveys, though you will need to have your own database of people to send the survey to. Surveymonkey.com Google Adwords. I generally use this when testing a new market or product to gauge consumer interest and to test copy. You can't aggregate data the way Google Surveys does, but you can do some good A/B testing to see what people prefer."Online Market Research Made Easy With Google Consumer Surveys
"Good luck with your new business. Google Consumer Surveys is probably the most affordable market research available. While it's not perfect, it'll give you enough data to keep you on the right track. Also check out Survey Monkey, it's free"Subscribe
Small Biz Survival: The Number One Complaint About Small Town Businesses
"When I think about Main St America, I think about the movie "Cars", when Lighting and Sally are sitting up high watching all of the motorists bypassing their small town (due to the new Interstate Highway) on their way to their final destination. Unfortunately, Main St isn't convenient enough for most travelers who sacrifice discovering new things over saving a few minutes on the road. I'm fortunate enough to live in a town with an active Main St, though there is a huge superplex being developed around the corner and it has everyone concerned. "
