How Will You Win the War For Talent?
"Hi Janine, Your post hits on some key points, but there's an elephant in the room in every post like this one--the fact that "recognition" generally needs to translate to money/compensation/benefits of some kind. Yes, people want to do their top work for personal ambition, to feel a part of something bigger than themselves, and for all other altruistic reasons...or for creature-comfort reasons like free gym memberships and cappuccinos..but when talent feels it's underpaid...it goes elsewhere, simple as that. All the input and extras only go so far in a down economy--in many businesses they're just attempts to grab at straws--and talent will always choose the ability to pay their bills and enjoy their lives on their own terms over intangibles like recognition programs. Personally, I've been on both sides--employee and owner--and I'd rather figure out a way to budget for the inevitable carrots necessary to attract and retain talent than spend time on empty gestures that stroke the ego, mollify, and cajole. Not that you were saying just that..but I guess your post sent me off on that tangent, lol.. Well, keep up the posting, and thanks for sharing on the BizSugar community as well!"10 Surprising Assertions From Elite Entrepreneurs
"Hey Martin, I don't know whether to be shocked at the fact I'm not shocked, especially at the idea of putting business before family (I know about that one from personal experience) or to be shocked that there's nothing that crazy or quirky about the list. I think I've been living with an entrepreneur far too long to think any of this is crazy...and I'm sure it's rubbed off on me. But one thing...about risk taking..I think for people worried about making a transition from working for a company to starting their own, how much of a risk is it anyway these days? The economy is so bad and jobs are so hard to find, that I just don't see starting one's own business as any riskier than working for a company who will likely lay you off when you're least expecting it, under pay you, take advantage of you or otherwise force you to compromise yourself. Love the post, though...makes me think! And thanks, as always, for sharing it with the BizSugar community. :)"Why You Need a Content Management System
"Hi Jon-Mikel, The first most important aspect of a content management system is that it makes it easy for you or anyone in your company to upload content quickly and with relative ease. The second, is that it requires little in the way of technical skill or the ability to program to be able to do it. Thanks for sharing this great post with the BizSugar community. "Subscribe
What Motivates You?
"Hi Jenn... I think that there's a key thing here in your story: You envisioned meeting your social media icons...maybe not as soon as it happened, but you believed it could and would happen at some point. Perhaps you even figured it was inevitable. I think that sometimes people just can't envision their success..or the things that will lead them to happiness. They have some deep doubt or insecurity that tells them they're not deserving of success. So to me the key is envisioning that goal. What drives me is that even in my darkest times I can see possibilities. And honestly, I don't let myself look too far into the future or worry about the past. Unlike you, I don't have heroes...but I look for that inner hero, envision it can be there, and so it becomes true. And I work each day to realize a little more of it. This keeps me working through things I don't like to do...but which are necessary to get a little further toward my goals. Hope I don't sound too out there, lol, for someone who's supposed to be grounded in small business..but it its what it is. Your post was great..made me think--which I figure is the point. Thanks for sharing it with the BizSugar community!"
